How Wide is a TV Screen?

You can use the screen width formula to figure out how wide a TV is.

screen width = 16 × diagonal / √(16² + 9²)

For example, let’s find out how wide a 65″ TV is.

65″ TV screen width = 16 × 65 / √(16² + 9²)
65″ TV screen width = 16 × 65 / √(256 + 81)
65″ TV screen width = 16 × 65 / √337
65″ TV screen width = 16 × 65 / 18.36
65″ TV screen width = 16 × 3.54
65″ TV screen width = 56.7″
