How to Calculate Sod Weight
Are you planning on ordering and transporting a shipment of sod? If so, you might be wondering how much sod weighs.
How Much Does a Pallet of Sod Weigh?
One pallet of sod generally weighs 1,500 to 3,000 pounds, but that can vary depending on the moisture content, thickness of soil in the roll or slab, amount on the pallet, and the variety of grass.
So, using the weight per pallet, you can calculate the weight of sod by multiplying that by the number of pallets. Use our sod calculator to figure out how many pallets you’ll need.
total weight = weight per pallet × number of pallets
Keep in mind that this is only an estimate of the weight, and the actual weight could far exceed this if the sod has a very high moisture content.
Roll (10 sq ft) | 35 – 45 lbs |
---|---|
Roll (5 sq ft) | 15 – 30 lbs |
Pallet (500 sq ft) | 1,500 – 3,000 lbs |
For large loads like this, be sure to use safe loading and transportation practices and ensure your vehicle can properly handle the weight of the load.
Many sod farms also offer a delivery service, which can range in cost. Learn more about lawn project costs on our sod cost guide.
