How to Add Hours and Minutes
Adding times in hours and minutes can seem challenging, but you can do it easily by following a few simple steps.
Step One: start by adding the hours of each time together, then add the minutes of each time together.
If the resulting minutes are less than 60, then that’s it, you’re done! If not, then proceed to step two.
Step Two: if the resulting minutes are larger than 60, then add 1 to the total hours and subtract 60 from the total minutes.
Repeat this until the resulting minutes are less than 60. The result at this point should be the total time duration in hours and minutes.

For example, let’s add 2:45 and 3:20 to find the total hours and minutes.
Start by adding the hours and minutes of each time separately.
2 + 3 = 5 hours
45 + 20 = 65 minutes
Next, since the resulting minutes are greater than 60, subtract 60 minutes and add 1 hour.
65 – 60 = 5 minutes
5 + 1 = 6 hours
So, the resulting time is 6 hours and 5 minutes.
