What Is a Statvolt?

A statvolt is a unit used to measure voltage.

The statvolt is a centimeter-gram-second (CGS) electrostatic unit of voltage. A statvolt is sometimes also referred to as an ESU. Statvolts can be abbreviated as stV, and are also sometimes abbreviated as statV. For example, 1 statvolt can be written as 1 stV or 1 statV.

How Much Is a Statvolt?

One statvolt is the difference in electric potential equal to exactly 299.792458 volts. One statvolt is equal to the potential difference that would move one statampere of current against one statohm of resistance.

How to Convert Statvolts

To convert statvolts to another unit of voltage, you need to multiply the value by a conversion factor. A conversion factor is a numerical value used to change the units of a measurement without changing the value.[1]

You can find the conversion factors for statvolts in the conversion table below.

Then, multiply the voltage measurement by the conversion factor to find the equivalent value in the desired unit of measurement.

statvolts × conversion factor = result

You can also use a calculator, such as one of the converters below, for the conversion.
