How to Calculate the Volume of a Cone

A cone is a three-dimensional object with a rounded base and curved sides that taper to a point or vertex. You can calculate the volume of a cone given the dimensions of its base and the height of its vertex.

Cone Volume Formula

You can use the following formula to find the volume of a cone:

V = 1 / 3πr²h

Thus, the volume of a cone is equal to 1/3 times pi times the length of the base radius r squared, times the height of the vertex h.

To calculate a cone’s volume, you need the height and radius, and then apply the formula above.

For example, let’s calculate the volume of a cone with a radius of 7 and a height of 22.

V = 1 / 3 × π × 7² × 22
V = 1128.9

So, the volume of this cone is 1128.9.

How to Calculate the Volume of a Conical Frustum

A frustum is a three-dimensional object with a rounded base and a smaller rounded top, with rounded, tapering sides connecting the two planes. A frustum is essentially a cone that has been sliced horizontally.

You can calculate the volume of a frustum given the dimensions of its top and base, and the height of the top from the base.

Conical Frustum Volume Formula

You can use the following formula to find the volume of a frustum:

V = 1 / 3 × π × h × (R² + r² + (R × r))

Thus, the volume of a conical frustum is equal to 1/3 times pi times the height from the top to the base h, times the base radius R squared plus the top radius r squared, plus the product of the top and base radii.
